Pilgrimages are currently paused due to COVID-19.

E-mail Rev. Jessica Vacketta to have your name added to our Mission Pilgrimage Interest group and you’ll be the first to learn about upcoming opportunities.

Mission Pilgrimage

Our language is intentional – a pilgrimage rather than a mission trip. It’s not about us and what we’re doing, but about what God is going to do through us and those we meet. It’s a ministry of accompaniment, where listening, learning and receiving are as much a part of the experience as speaking, teaching, and giving.

Global Ministries

University Christian Church is a Global Mission Church of Global Ministries- the missional witness of our denomination, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and the United Church of Christ. Global Ministries works with approximately 290 faith-based international partners in nearly 90 countries.

What Does It Mean To Be A Global Mission Church?

We invite you to join us in this work, by praying for our Global Mission Co-Worker, Elena Huegel, who is serving in Mexico at the Intercultural Research and Studies Institute.

  1. We PRAY regularly for ministry partners, Mission Co-Workers, and the world.
  2. We EDUCATE our members about global issues from preschool age to adult.
  3. We SEEK JUSTICE for the “least of these” in the international community.
  4. We RECEIVE the gifts of the global church.
  5. We GIVE to the work of global mission.
  6. We SEND our members into the world to share the Good News of Jesus.
  7. We GROW in sharing the story of God’s mission with others.

Week of Compassion

As the relief, refugee, and development mission fund of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Week of Compassion works with partners to alleviate suffering throughout the world. They also work with local partners and congregations to help prepare for and respond to disasters in the United States.

Our gifts are currently being used to support Afghans seeking safety, the people of Haiti and Mexico following the massive earthquakes, neighbors along the coast recovering from Ida and flood and wildfire victims across the country.

Project Chacocente Christian School

Built in 2005, Project Chacocente was initially a school for children whose families had been relocated from living in Managua, Nicaragua’s city dump, to the fresh countryside air of Masaya.

It met the special learning needs of children previously exposed to the toxic fumes and malnutrition of life in the dump. Today, Chacocente Christian School provides a tuition-free, full day program (including a nutritious lunch) to the children of the Project and surrounding neighborhoods.

University Christian Church first traveled to Nicaragua in the summer of 2011. Working side by side with the families and staff of Project Chacocente, we have helped build classrooms, bridges, sports courts, and most importantly, relationships. Unfortunately, our last pilgrimage was in the summer of 2017 before civil unrest once again erupted in Nicaragua and it wasn’t safe to travel, and then, COVID. We look forward to the day when we can reunite with our friends at Chacocente. Until then, we continue to support them with our prayers and financial gifts.
