For 10 years, University Christian Church has responded to the very real need of homeless persons for inclusion and affirmation. Twenty-two nights a year, ten different guests spend the night and enjoy dinner and breakfast. UCC volunteers not only give but also receive inspiration, compassion, and fellowship. Room in the Inn is about ordinary people loving their neighbors in extraordinary ways—welcoming and accepting people exactly as they are is the greatest gift any of us can give.
UCC, in partnership with True Worth Place, and other local faith communities, extend God’s extravagant hospitality by offering homeless guests our support and acceptance. Each week, during the open times of the program, guests are picked up at True Worth Place on Wednesday afternoon and arrive at UCC. Our guests share an evening meal and fellowship before they settle in for a restful night’s sleep. Breakfast is served in the morning and guests are taken back to True Worth Place with a sack lunch for the next day.
The meal and beds are appreciated, but the greatest benefits come from the relationships. We laugh with our guests and play games with them. We listen to them. Most importantly, we affirm the worth of every individual.
Jesus challenged us to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, and welcome the stranger.
Wednesday afternoons (3pm) – Thursday mornings (8am) in July & August.
All ages can serve and this is a great opportunity for families. Everyone who serves must complete a background check.
