Boar’s Head Yule Log Fesitval

Since 1976 University Christian Church concludes the Christmas season and starts the New Year with the magnificent Boar’s Head and Yule Log Festival! A multi-generational cast and musicians of over 300 re-enacts the ancient celebration which marks the end of the twelve days of Christmas. Also known as The Epiphany, the end of the twelve days traditionally claims that the Magi offered their gifts to the Christ Child. The pageant is based on an old legend, that of an Oxford student who kills a wild boar when it interrupts his studies. When the church adopted the Festival in 1975, it gained a new, Christian significance: the wild boar, symbolic of evil, is overcome by good through the teachings of Christ. The festival is celebrated every year in the UCC Sanctuary on the first Saturday and Sunday in January. There are two performances at 3 and 5 p.m. each day.
