Unwrapped: The Surprising  Gifts of Advent

This Advent season we will focus on some surprising gifts that come to us if we are able to be patient, still, and pay attention.

Traditionally, when we think of Advent, we immediately call to mind Mary, Joseph, and the angel Gabriel.  But in the Gospel of Luke, Zechariah and Elizabeth are the first two people we meet in the Advent narrative.  They’ll be our guides in this journey through Advent and will teach us about the living in the pain of unanswered prayers, the power of silence and simplicity, the blessing of life-giving relationships, and the promise of God to make a way, even when it seems no way is to be found.

Red Envelope

We invite you to prayerfully consider a special gift to our church this year. We are grateful for your faithful generosity all year, but if you feel like giving additionally during the holidays, red envelopes are located in the pews during each service. We thank you for being such dedicated, faithful members of the church.

While Christmas songs old and new fill every public space this season, the church sings about waiting and watching and preparing the way for the arrival of God-with-us.” Join the conversation with Kera, Renee and Shannon as Formation explores Advent hymns and the scriptures that mark our journey to Bethlehem.

In recent years UCC has dedicated our Christmas Eve offering to a ministry partner in Fort Worth whose work is dedicated to serving our neighbors. This year we are honored to support ACH Child and Family Services.  Recently Russ sat down with Kristie Gibson, Director of Donor Relations Development, to find out more about ACH, which has been protecting children since 1915.
