Born into University Christian Church, Cathy Taylor is a third generation University Christian Church member, and at least a fifth-generation member of the Disciples of Christ. Dedicated and baptized by Dr. Granville Walker, her favorites were his Pedro sermons during Advent. Growing up she was a member of the Children’s Choirs and Handbells under Betty Boles, Chi Rho under Roger Wedell, and CYF under Ed Combs. She was 13 when Rev. Albert Pennybacker and his family moved to Fort Worth and Cathy “adopted” David Pennybacker as her big brother.
Cathy graduated from Paschal High School, then attended the University of Texas in Austin where she received a BBA in Finance and Real Estate in 1982. A third generation Realtor, Cathy is now President and Owner of Helen Painter Group, Realtors, a company her grandmother, Helen Painter, opened in 1958.
Cathy and husband Tim have been married 19 years. Their children include Caroline Shivers, a recent graduate from SMU Law School; Grant Taylor and his wife Karen and son Austin (3) of Chappaqua, New York; Adam Taylor of San Diego, California; Grace Ballard and her husband Graham and their two children, Helena (3) and Tillman (1) of Fort Worth; and Kate Team and her husband Craig and their daughter Margaret (5 months) of Fort Worth.
Cathy has served on UCC’s Board of Stewards, the Weekday School Board, and all four Administrative Committees. She has also
Co-Chaired the Church and the Arts Committee, Shepherded in Journey Land, and is currently Co-Chair of the Boar’s Head and Yule Log Guild.
Cathy is honored to accept the role of Chair of the Board of Stewards, stating that “The excitement and energy that is growing throughout our congregation is palpable. Our halls are hallowed; those who walked before us...are cheering us on to grow in our faith and to let our light shine. I look forward to serving by your side next year.”
